Who said style doesn’t come with substance? This 4-Room HDB takes on a lavish timeless design inspired by the functional Muji design. With an infusion of pale woody tones accented with white hues, the apartment exudes a soothing charm pleasing to the eye.
Built as a multifunctional space, the living room carries pockets of space for individual purposes to fully utilise the area while also maintaining a cohesive feel. Fluted panels installed in the living room add a textural element to the area, doubling as a stylish accent to the room as well as obscuring hidden storage spaces behind the wall.
Designed to be aesthetically pleasing yet functional, the open kitchen enclosed by foldable glass doors allows for versatility in the communal space while allowing the home to appear visually lighter. Inside, there is pure luxe at every turn created by the juxtaposition of gold accents against white and black cabinetry.
DESIGNER'S PERSPECTIVE
With the Muji concept, less is more. We wanted the home to be open, airy and bright, opting for light colours, while playing around with the textures for contrast. Considering that the owners were looking for a more minimalistic vibe with plenty of space, we decided that an open plan layout would be most suitable for their requirements.
Taking a creative approach to the carpentry gave us the opportunity to design connectivity between the rooms while retaining capaciousness. We opted to hack the bedroom and store room, adding in to the usable living space of the home. Instead, a longer storage space was added in on one side of the living area. Hidden behind the fluted panels, its an inventive and practical solution that provides easy access to essentials, while maintaining the design aesthetic of the abode.
The open concept extends all the way to the kitchen, adorned with a combination of pure black and marble white for a classy touch. Accents of gold accessories and focus lights add a premium look to the area. The compact island acts as a perfect workpace for cooking and meal preparation, fitted with in-built appliances.
